A Lightsome Donation

Good lighting is important anywhere, but particularly in Shetland whose latitude is similar to places like Norway, Sweden and Finland. This means whilst the summer here can provide nearly 19 hours of sunlight, during the winter, we see fewer than six hours of daylight (sometimes closer to 3 hours!).

With that in mind, you can imagine our delight when the Daylight Company gifted the studio three of their fantastic Wafer Lightboxes. Anyone familiar with drawing will surely have used a lightbox (or window) at some point to trace an outline, but if you have ever worked in printmaking then you will know how crucial lightboxes can be when creating colour-separated designs to be printed over several different layers! So we are really excited by this beautiful new equipment to work with.

Art is my favourite field. Good lighting has such a beneficial influence on the creativity of the individual artist. It gives real satisfaction to design products that meet their need.
— Patrick Jacquelin, Founder, The Daylight Company

In addition to this generous donation, the Daylight Company have decided to implement a new process for redistributing products like these which, although are in absolutely perfect condition, cannot be retailed due to imperfections or damage to the packaging. So we want to say a big thank you to Patrick and everyone at the Daylight Company, because initiative like this make a real difference to nonprofits like Gaada and the artists we work with!
