Reigniting Flame, Issue 2 by Rhys Mouat
The eagerly awaited second instalment of Rhys Mouat’s Reigniting Flame series is about to be released with a special launch at Lerwick’s Bop Shop on Saturday 15th October from 11am – 1pm.
Issue 2 resumes the adventures of protagonists Shirifuari and Shiranuri after their clash with the Army of Light leaving us on a cliffhanger in the first issue.
Reigniting Flame is the first anime comic series to be published in Shetland and has been created and developed by Rhys over the pasts few years. Gaada received support from the SCVO Wellbeing Fund during the Covid19 lockdowns to part-fund the production cost for the first issue which was published in 2020.
The Bop Shop launch will also include an exhibition of Rhys' work as well as the release of a brand-new Puffin Perch enamel pin also designed by Rhys. This badge is the second pin to feature a Shetland bird, which represents a different town or setting in the Reigniting Flame series. The first badge, which will also be on sale, was a Shalder for Shalder Town, and the new badge represents the fictional lighthouse Puffin's Perch.
Rhys is now underway with his October art challenge VG-Tober where he draws a picture a day, each one relating to a computer game franchise.
Since 2019, Rhys has been received supported through Gaada weekly workshops as well as good friend Marjolein who has been working as a scribe on the project.
