Doors Open Days 2022
Gaada will take part in Doors Open Days for the second year. We invite you to visit our Burra workshop on Sat 24th + Sun 25th September.
Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free festival that celebrates heritage and the built environment, offering access to venues across the country.
On Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September, Gaada’s door will be open from 10am - 4pm to welcome folk. Access to our busy space is usually very limited, so the open day provides an exciting oportunity for us to welcome folk into the workshop!

MAK A LAANG ERM
Through our work, Gaada invites people in Shetland to mak a laang erm and help themselves to whatever support is needed to nourish their creative landscape. This sentiment provides the namesake of the exhibition you will find inside the workshop, showcasing the work of 19 artists who have collaborated with Gaada during the past year.
The exhibiting artists are:
Rafferty, Julie Dennison, Brian Sinclair, Elie Coutts, Daniel Clark, Andy Anderson, Claire Davenport, Vivian Ross-Smith, Rhys Mouat, Sally Huband, Mari Johnson, Jono Sandilands, Clare Scott, Struan Haswell, Amy Gear, Cameron Morgan, Foula Primary School, Jen Hadfield and Jane Cockayne.
HISTORY
Gaada is based in the former Burra Isle Methodist Chapel. The chapel was founded in 1893 and enjoyed a rich 122 years at the very heart of Burra community life. The chapel held its last service in 2015 and remained empty until it was taken on by Gaada in 2018.
Gaada strives to be a safe space and opens its doors every day to artists and the wider community of Shetland. We are excited to be taking part in the Doors Open Days festival again, which ensures that Scotland’s spaces and stories, new and old, are made accessible to people living in and visiting the country.
