Up Helly Aa for Aa Archive

After months working on the Up Hella Aa for Aa Archive, we are delighted to share it with the public as a permanent resource accessible on the Gaada website.

A growing digital archive documenting over 100 years of Women in Shetland advocating for gender equality in the island’s largest cultural Festival. This resource was developed in collaboration with Up Helly Aa for Aa during Weemin's Wark and formed the heart of the programme.

We are also delighted to share the resources created by the Weemin’s Wark project partners at the Glasgow Women’s Library:

"Although Covid restrictions prevented an exhibition of the artists’ work within the Glasgow Women's Library building the staff team in collaboration with Gaada found many ways to showcase the work and continue a dialogue on the issue. Brooke Palmieri’s flag hung outside our building whilst the artists and activists in Glasgow and on Shetland gathered with a truly global audience to celebrate the work and GWL’s Caroline Gausden paired work by the artists with objects selected from the archive at Glasgow Women’s Library.

Weemin’s Wark activity really sparked the imagination of many from our wonderful volunteer team at GWL who have developed a series of videos and blog posts responding to different aspects of the exhibition."

You can read more about the project and access these resources via the Weemin’s Wark Project Page
